Marshfield Youth Baseball

Ages 4 & 5

This level is designed to introduce players to the game of Baseball.  Players are instructed on the beginning
fundamentals of baseball like throwing, baserunning, fielding and hitting from a Tee.  They learn about team discipline and basic rules of the game.

The teams play at South River School on weekday evenings.  Games are 3 Innings or 1 Hour.  Every player gets up each inning, there are no outs and no score kept.  This is designed to truly understand the basics.

TBall is designed for ages 4 and 5 year-old players.

Coach/Kid Pitch
Ages 6 & 7

Rookie Level is a coach/kids pitch level.  All games are 6 Innings or 2 hours.  The players bat and field like real baseball.  Players must make contact to get on base, there are NO WALKS, only 3 outs and only 3 strikes.  Coaches pitch Innings 1-4 and the kids pitch Innings 5 & 6.  There are called 3rd strikes when kids pitch and the team will only bat to 3 outs or through the batting order, whichever comes first. 

There are no stealing or extra bases taken and most of the time no score is kept.  This level is designed to expand on basic fundamentals, while introducing player to the full game.

The teams play 2 weeknights, games are played at Eames Way or Daniel Webster Fields.

Rookie is designed for ages 6 & 7 ; however, players must be comfortable with the basics of hitting, catching and throwing, understand the bases, positioning, basic rules of game, and be comfortable with live pitching.

2nd Grade 8 year olds only

AAA League Level is for 8 year old players only.  Games will be played under MYBL AAA or Friendship baseball rules, full kid pitch and limited stealing at the Grace Ryder field or 230 Webster Street.  Scores and records are kept with standings and playoffs for teams.  All players are expected to be able to have basic throwing, catching and hitting.  However, this is recreational baseball and all levels are encouraged and welcomed. 

Teams are selected by a coach’s draft that evenly distributes the talent levels amongst the teams for fairness. Any parental, player placement, request will be acknowledged but not guaranteed.  Coaches will only be allowed to secure their own children and those of two of their assistant coaches.  All other players will be subject to a draft. All players are eligible to try out for the Friendship team

Minor League Level is for 9 and 10 year old players.  Games will be played under MYBL Minor baseball rules, full kid pitch and limited stealing.  Scores and records are kept with standings and playoffs for teams.  All players are expected to be able to have basic throwing, catching and hitting.  However, this is recreational baseball and all levels are encouraged and welcomed.

ALL players will be considered for selection on the Cal Ripken Tournament Team in their respective age groups.  11-13 players from the each of the 9 and 10-year-old levels will be selected by their coaches, and a try out if deemed necessary to represent Marshfield on the Cal Ripken Tournament Team.

Major League Level is for 11 and 12 year old players.  Games will be played under MYBL Major baseball rules, full kid pitch and stealing.  Scores and records are kept with standings and playoffs for teams.  All players are expected to be able to have basic throwing, catching and hitting.

The Major Division is played on a 50/70 diamond.  Games will be played on Rec 2 and Rec 3 and some travel to surrounding towns.  This level incorporates leading and consists of more advanced pitching, hitting and fielding.  MYBL Major 50/70 Rules apply.

Babe Ruth is for ages 13-16.  It is full baseball rules played on the 90-foot diamond.  Games are played at Marshfield High School Baseball Complex and travel to surrounding towns.  Players that are age 13 (typically in the 7th Grade) are eligible to play at the Babe Ruth Level.

These games are played in surrounding towns then brought back home for end of season and playoffs.
